The Way, the Truth, and the Life
“I don’t know the way. How do I get there?” These were common
comments before Google Maps or Ways. Now we can just put in an address and a
computerized system will tell us how to get just about anywhere we want to go. It
will even correct us if we make a wrong move. The computerized voice says,
“Recalculating” and redirects us.
Jesus was way ahead of his time. He told the disciples that he was going to
prepare a place for them and they shouldn’t be worried about it. He knew he
would be leaving them shortly. (This conversation takes place at eh Last Supper.)
He knew they would feel lost without him. He assures them that they know the
way he is going. Thomas says, “We do not know where you are going. How can we
know the way?” (Sounds like a good question to me.) Jesus responds, “I am the
way, the truth and the life.”
This still did not make it any clearer to the disciples. When Jesus further
tried to explain to them that He was going to the Father, they said, “show us the
Father and that will be enough.” Jesus tried to tell them how he and the Father
are one so if they know him, they know the Father. Still they were confused. They
didn’t really understand much of this until Pentecost when the Spirit came upon
them. Lucky for us we have all this time and history to help us understand. Or do
we?
Do we truly believe that Jesus is the way? Do we live our lives following the
way Jesus led his? He showed us how to live, taught us what to do. He is our
guide. His is the only way we should follow. I think sometimes we let other things
get in our way. Different things take priority in our lives. We need to “recalculate”
and get back on the right path.
Jesus is the truth. Do we believe what Jesus taught us? Do we believe in
our baptismal promises and our Creed? Jesus lived what he taught and showed us
how to live. It is not always easy, but He never said it would be. He actually said
we should take up our cross daily and follow him. He spoke the truth.
Jesus is the life. God loves us so much, that God became one of us in Jesus.
God wants us to live forever in eternity with God. God promises those who follow
and believe eternal life. Jesus shows us the way to eternal life.
There you have it. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. All we have to do
is believe and follow. It wasn’t easy for the first disciples and sometimes it is hard
for us. If we truly believe, following Jesus is the way to eternal life. Jesus said so.

El Camino, la Verdad y la Vida
“No sé el camino. ¿Como llego hasta ahí?" Estos eran comentarios
comunes antes de Google Maps o caminos. Ahora solo podemos ingresar una
dirección y un sistema computarizado nos dirá cómo llegar a cualquier lugar al
que queramos ir. Incluso nos corregirá si hacemos un movimiento en falso. La
voz computarizada dice: “Recalculando” y nos redirige.
Jesús estaba muy adelantado a su tiempo. Les dijo a los discípulos que les
iba a preparar un lugar y que no debían preocuparse por eso. Sabía que los
dejaría pronto. (Esta conversación tiene lugar en la Última Cena). Sabía que se
sentirían perdidos sin él. Les asegura que saben por dónde va. Tomás dice: “No
sabemos adónde vas. ¿Cómo podemos saber el camino? (Me parece una buena
pregunta). Jesús responde: “Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida”.
Esto todavía no lo hizo más claro para los discípulos. Cuando Jesús trató de
explicarles que iba al Padre, dijeron, “muéstranos al Padre y eso será suficiente”.
Jesús trató de decirles cómo él y el Padre son uno, así que si lo conocen, conocen
al Padre. Todavía estaban confundidos. Realmente no entendieron mucho de
esto hasta Pentecostés cuando el Espíritu vino sobre ellos. Por suerte para
nosotros, tenemos todo este tiempo e historia para ayudarnos a entender. ¿O
nosotros?
¿Realmente creemos que Jesús es el camino? ¿Vivimos nuestras vidas
siguiendo la forma en que Jesús llevó la suya? Nos mostró cómo vivir, nos enseñó
qué hacer. Él es nuestro guía. El suyo es el único camino que debemos seguir.
Creo que a veces dejamos que otras cosas se interpongan en nuestro camino.
Diferentes cosas tienen prioridad en nuestras vidas. Necesitamos “recalcular” y
volver al camino correcto.
Jesús es la verdad. ¿Creemos lo que Jesús nos enseñó? ¿Creemos en
nuestras promesas bautismales y en nuestro Credo? Jesús vivió lo que enseñó y
nos mostró cómo vivir. No siempre es fácil, pero Él nunca dijo que lo sería. De
hecho, dijo que debemos tomar nuestra cruz todos los días y seguirlo. Dijo la
verdad.
Jesús es la vida. Dios nos ama tanto, que Dios se hizo uno de nosotros en
Jesús. Dios quiere que vivamos para siempre en la eternidad con Dios. Dios
promete a los que siguen y creen en la vida eterna. Jesús nos muestra el camino a
la vida eterna.
Ahí lo tienes. Jesús es el Camino la Verdad y la Vida. Todo lo que tenemos
que hacer es creer y seguir. No fue fácil para los primeros discípulos y a veces es
